CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball opened a four-match homestand tonight with a 3-0 (14-25, 17-25, 14-25) loss to visiting DePaul in an inter-city battle held at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. The Blue Demons improved their season record to 3-19, while the Cougars fell to 0-23 on the year.
Junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) and freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) each tallied eight kills to lead CSU. Junior Leslie Williams (Phenlan, CA/Lake Land College) (Phelan, Calif.) recorded 12 digs, while senior Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) (Eden Prairie, Minn.), in her first match back from injury, produced 21 assists and nearly had a double-double with eight digs.
DePaul was paced by senior Kate Letcher and sophomore Rachel Baumann with 10 kills apiece. Sophomore Sammy Geiger dished out a match-high 38 assists and senior Katherine Knutson posted a match-leading 14 digs.
CSU welcomes South Dakota to the Jacoby Dickens Center this Thursday for a Great West Conference battle beginning at 7 p.m.
