CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball opened a five-match road swing Thursday evening with a three-set loss to host Green Bay by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-11 at the Kress Events Center in Green Bay, Wis.
The Cougars fell to 0-18 on the year and the Phoenix hiked their season record to 5-11 this year.
CSU was led by freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom)'s (Chicago Heights, Ill.) seven kills, while junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) and senior Emem Obot (Calumet City, IL/South Suburban College) (Calumet City, Ill.) each added five kills in the match.
Freshman Anna Morgan (South Range, WI/Maple-Northwestern) (South Range, Wis.) recorded a season-high 15 assists and fellow classmate Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) tallied nine digs
Junior Kelly Mischler recorded a .636 hitting clip (8-1-11) to lead Green Bay. Sophomore Carmen Leitermann added seven kills, while senior Whitney Schott produced a match-high 33 assists. The Phoenix defense was paced by sophomore Brittany Groth's 19 digs and sophomore Leah Van Zeeland's five blocks (one solo, four assists), both match-best totals.
CSU returns to Great West Conference play tomorrow evening with a contest at NJIT beginning at 4 p.m.
