Women’s Golf Defeats Loyola in Chi-Town Showdown

Senior Tessa Harp captured medalist honors after shooting a 76 in the Chi Town Showdown against Loyola

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's golf opened its 2009-10 season on Sept. 5 on a good note with a 323-333 victory over rival Loyola at the Chi-Town Showdown, held at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Ind. The victory was the second straight for the Cougars over the Ramblers in the burgeoning series.

 

Senior Tessa Harp (Valencia, CA/College of the Canyons) (Valencia, Calif.) led CSU in the dual match as she posted a four-over-par 76. She shot a 35 on the back nine to edge Loyola's Rachel Mayer by one stroke to earn medalist honors.

 

In her first competition as a collegiate player, freshman Andrea Rosado (Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico/American Heritage School) (Ponce, P.R.) tied with Loyola's Lucy McGovern for third-place honors as she shot a 78 which included a 37 on the back nine.

 

Sophomore Brittany Johnson (Golden, Colo./Golden) (Golden, Colo.) recorded an 84 for the match, including a 38 on the front nine to finish in a tie for fifth place, while freshman Sophie Shearer (Lytham, St. Annes, England/Fairhaven Secondary School) (Lytham, St. Annes, England) captured eighth place with a score of 85.

 

Rounding out the scoring for the Cougars was freshman Diana Flores (Torreon, Coah, Mexico/Instituto Alpes) (Torreon, Coah, Mexico) as she shot an 86 for the match.

 

CSU travels downstate to Macomb, Ill, to compete in the Western Illinois Autumn Invitational which will run from Sunday, Sept. 13 to Monday, Sept. 14.
