CHICAGO (Oct. 20, 2009) – Chicago State volleyball began a three-match road slate here this evening as host UIC captured a three-set (25-9, 25-16, 25-15) home win over the visiting Cougars at the Flames Athletic Center.
CSU saw its record drop to 0-19 on the season, while the Flames improved their season ledger to 11-13.
The Cougars were led by sophomore Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) as she tallied six kills on the day. Junior Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) (Eden Prairie, Minn.) nearly recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she notched 15 assists and eight digs to go along with a pair of service aces. Senior Niena Posey (Chicago, IL/Lincoln College) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) contributed five digs and three kills for CSU.
Leading UIC's offensive output was junior Casie Sullivan with 13 kills and added eight digs, while junior Epiphany Davis and Kelsey Safranek each recorded seven kills. Junior Jessica Dalke posted a match-high of 33 assists and
CSU hits the road to the Dakotas this weekend for a pair of Great West Conference matches to end the month of October. The Cougars open the trip this Friday night at South Dakota with the first serve set for 7 p.m.
