Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision at Providence

Megan Granko led CSU with 16 digs at Providence

CHICAGO - Chicago State volleyball concluded its weekend road swing through Rhode Island with a four-set (15-25, 16-25, 26-24, 12-25) loss to Providence Saturday afternoon at PC's Mullaney Gymnasium. The Friars improved to 13-12 on the year and the Cougars saw their season record drop to 0-26.

CSU was led by sophomore Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) (Eden Prairie, Minn.) as she nearly tallied a double-double with a career-best 10 kills and eight digs. Junior Chy Crichton (The Dalles, OR/Mt. Hood CC) (The Dalles, Ore.) contributed a double-double of a season-best 21 assists and 12 digs, while junior Megan Granko (Lockport, IL/Lincoln College) (Lockport, Ill.) paced the Cougar defense with 16 digs and junior Jean Keenan (/) (Braidwood, Ill.) posted 10 digs. Redshirt junior Shamara Clark (Bloomington, IN/South) (Bloomington, Ind.) also recorded nine digs and seven kills.

Senior Elizabeth Flynn tallied a match-high 15 kills to lead Providence. Junior Abby Majerski added 12 kills and notched a match-best .600 hitting percentage. Senior Jeanette Toney recorded 11 kills and a match-high nine blocks, while senior Kelly Krahenbuhl posted a match-high 19 digs. Senior Sara Sheehan guided the Friar offense with a match-high 34 assists and also produced four service aces.

The Cougars travel to the Midwest for a pair of matches next weekend beginning Friday, Oct. 31 at SIU Edwardsville with the first serve at 7 p.m.
