CHICAGO – Chicago State head basketball coaches Benjy Taylor and Angela Jackson have announced today that they will personally donate money towards the Haitian Relief Fund to help rebuild the country that recently went through a massive earthquake on Jan. 12.
“Our hearts go out to all the families dealing with this devastation,” Taylor said. “I was living in New Orleans at the time of Hurricane Katrina, so I understand that a little help is better than no help at all. This is our way of trying to help the people of Haiti through such a traumatic experience.”
Coach Taylor will donate $100 for every Cougar men's victory for the remainder of the season to go along with donating $5 for every assist and made three-pointer in each game.
In addition, Coach Jackson will also make a donation to the relief efforts in Haiti.
“The earthquake and the devastation that's happened over in Haiti have affected us all. If I can only contribute a little bit to those people in this time of need, then I'm willing to do whatever we can to make that happen, stated Jackson. “You just hope that the people still there can get the necessary medical attention they need in order to get over this crisis.”
Both teams resume Great West Conference play Saturday afternoon at NJIT with the women playing at 2 p.m., Eastern Time and the men's game begins at 4 p.m., Eastern Time. For more information, contact Coach Taylor at (773) 995-3657 or Coach Jackson at (773) 995-2289.
