Diana Muhammad

Chicago native and two-time Olympic track athlete Diana Muhammad is in her second season in 2012-13 as Academic Coordinator for Chicago State University Athletics.

Muhammad is in charge of the department’s book depository, monitors academic progress of student-athletes and is the coordinator for the Cougar360/City Life programs.

Prior to coming to CSU, Muhammad earned world recognition after capturing the gold medal as part of the U.S. 4x100m relay team at the 1987 IAAF World Championships in Rome, Italy. She also won the 100m at the 1987 U.S. Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She was rated fifth in the world by Track & Field News in the 100m after earning a bronze medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Muhammad was also rated second in the U.S. in the 100m by Track & Field News in 1982-83 while setting school records in the 100m and 4x100m relay as a member of the California State University-Los Angeles women’s track team.

As a sprinter at Chicago’s Dunbar Vocational High School from 1976-79, Muhammad collected three IHSA Class AA state titles and a pair of Chicago Public League championships that included posting a sweep of the 100-yard and 200-yard dashes in 1979.

Muhammad is currently a member of U.S. Track & Field Association for the state of Illinois and earned a B.A. degree from Governors State University in 2002. She is also an accomplished author as her autobiography entitled “True To Me” is currently in bookstores nationwide.
