Jean Macon

Jean Macon was named Director of Golf at Chicago State University on March 1, 2024, following a national search. A decorated coach and U.S. Army Iraq veteran, Macon brings nearly 20 years of coaching and teaching experience to the Cougars’ golf program.

In 2023, Macon was honored as the USCAA Golf Coach of the Year, becoming the first African American and the first woman to receive the award. Prior to CSU, she served as head men’s and women’s golf coach at Johnson & Wales University–Charlotte, where she led the men’s team to its first USCAA National Championship and guided the women’s program to an Individual National Title. Under her leadership, seven student-athletes earned All-American or All-Academic honors.

An LPGA Teaching Professional with more than 15 years of experience, Macon is the founder of Flagstick Golf Academy in Charlotte, where she has coached players of all ages and abilities—including youth, seniors, veterans, and adult beginners. Her previous roles include teaching at TPC Piper Glen, coaching at Queens University, and instructing with Nike Junior Golf Camps and the First Tee of Charlotte.

Macon is known not only for her competitive success, but for her dedication to player development and growing the game through inclusive instruction and mentorship.

Macon received her bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2016.Â
