Alexis Mihelich

Alexis Mihelich enters her third season as head coach at Chicago State University after bringing the South Side program to new heights over her first two years at the helm after spending a year and a half as an assistant coach at two area universities.

The Mokena, Ill., native guided the Cougars to a successful 2008-09 campaign which saw them win a pair of tournaments (IPFW and Saint Francis [Ill.]) and finish fourth at the inaugural Great West Conference Championship meet in Houston. CSU also placed in the top five in the majority of its competitions during the year, including a second-place finish at the Green Bay Fall Classic and a third-place showing at the Butler Fall Classic. Mihelich also tutored senior Tessa Harp to capture Great West Golfer of the Week honors in the spring after winning medalist honors at Saint Francis.

During the offseason in the summer of 2008, Mihelich was busy on the golfing circuit as she competed in the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional National Championship in Pinehurst, N.C., and finished 38th at the 14th-annual Illinois Women’s Open in Romeoville in which she shot a 76 in the second round.

In her first season at CSU, Mihelich led three golfers to earn all-tournament team honors at the Savannah State Fall Invitational. She also guided the Cougars to a second-place finish at the Loyola Triangular.

Prior to CSU, Mihelich served as the assistant coach to the men’s and women’s golf teams at Robert Morris University in Chicago and helped the Eagles achieve the best fall season in school history that included multiple team victories. She also worked as a volunteer assistant coach for two years at Saint Francis in Joliet, Ill.

Mihelich worked at the Green Garden Golf Academy in Frankfort, Ill., as a full-time LPGA teaching professional alongside former PGA Tour player Marty Schiene and PGA member John Platt. She has been featured as a model for the legendary Golden Tee arcade video game and worked as the personal golf instructor for the late comedic legend Bernie Mac. Mihelich also served as the golf consultant on Mac’s final movie “Soul Men” in 2007.

A 2004 graduate from the University of New Orleans with a B.A. degree in secondary education, Mihelich was a three-time Academic All-Sun Belt Conference honoree and a two-year team captain for the Privateers.
