Tim O’Donnell enters his sixth season as an assistant on the CSU women’s basketball coaching staff. In his capacity with the Cougars, O’Donnell serves as the team’s film exchange coordinator while overseeing team travel, scouting and game plan preparation.
O’Donnell came to CSU in the fall of 2003 after spending three seasons as an assistant women’s coach at North Dakota State College of Science, a junior college located in Wahpeton, N.D. While with NDSCS, he was in charge of recruiting, fundraising, team travel, overseeing film exchange and game film breakdown in addition to being the team’s academic advisor and sports information director.
The Wildcats posted a 71-30 record with two Region XIII championships and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament during O’Donnell’s tenure. The NDSCS coaching staff also captured two Region XIII Coaching Staff of the Year honors in three years.
Prior to coaching at NDSCS, O’Donnell spent three years at the University of Chicago as a volunteer assistant coach for the school’s women’s basketball team. At UC, he assisted the head coach with on-the-floor coaching, recruiting, skill breakdown and making travel arrangements. Before heading into coaching, O’Donnell served two years as an Event Marketing Assistant at Northwestern University.
A Chicago native, O’Donnell received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Eastern Illinois University in 1991. He is married to the former Leigh Newland and they reside on the north side of Chicago with their daughters, Charlotte and Audrey.
