Sheila Tyler

Sheila Tyler enters her fthird year at Chicago State University, where she holds the title of Manager of Campus Recreation. She is responsible for administering a comprehensive campus recreation program.

Tyler began her college career at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a Bachelor’s in Leisure Studies. In 2013, Tyler will graduate with a Master’s in Recreation, Sport & Tourism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Prior to coming to CSU, Tyler was the Director of Academics for an online university, where she was responsible for the administration and retention of new and continuing students during their first term. She also won the Dean’s Club award in 2007 and served as the Kaplan United Ambassador for the County Fair.

As a leisure professional, Tyler has managed and developed several recreational programs for park districts, hotels, health clubs, resorts and cruise lines, which focused on enhancing the quality of life for all individuals. In addition, she supervised one of the pilot locations for the After School Matters Sports37 program and created the first Girl Scout Troop within a health club at Lakeshore Athletic Club.

Tyler has an extensive facilities management background and has successfully developed risk management programs and standard operating procedures, for the Sears Tower Health Club and the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, where she held the hotel’s highest safety record of 98%.

Additionally, her leisure philosophy is having fun and leading a healthy lifestyle. Her hobbies are fitness, jumping rope and going to the movies.
