EVANSTON, Ill. — Chicago State University fell to No. 56 Northwestern 4-0 on Sunday at the Combe Tennis Center. CSU competed closely in the doubles matches, tying at the No. 1 position.
Northwestern secured the doubles point with victories at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. Katya Shepherd Johnson and Mika Dagan Fruchtman delivered a 6-0 win over
Nikita Liyanage and
Nadjema Morille at No. 3 doubles, followed by Neena Feldman and Marelie Raath defeating
Camila Sanchez and
Danina Hughes, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles. The match at No. 1 doubles went unfinished with a close 4-3 lead for Northwestern's 46th ranked pair, Margot Phanthala and Erica Jessel, over
Mackenzie King and
Karolina Skowronska.
In singles play, Northwestern extended its lead as Margot Phanthala, ranked No. 90, defeated
Karolina Skowronska, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. The home team continued its strong performance with Erica Jessel's 6-3, 6-0 victory over
Mackenzie King at No. 3 singles. Maia Loureiro secured another point for Northwestern with a 6-1, 6-2 win against
Nikita Liyanage at No. 4 singles.
Northwestern completed the sweep with additional victories. Marelie Raath won 6-0, 6-0 over
Danina Hughes at No. 5 singles, while Katya Shepherd Johnson closed out a 6-1, 6-0 win against
Nadjema Morille at No. 6 singles. Neena Feldman rounded out the singles matches, defeating
Camila Sanchez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, finalizing the dual match score.
