Cougars Women's Tennis Fall to Valparaiso University on Senior Day

CHICAGO, Ill. - Chicago State University lost to Valparaiso 5-2 on Saturday. The Cougars secured singles victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and claimed a doubles win at the No. 1 flight. The Cougars also honored senior Mackenzie King before the match for the Senior Day celebration.

Valparaiso secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Moira Silva and Brynn Steven opened with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles against Camila Sanchez and Nikita Liyanage. Andrea Delgado and Madi Rogers followed with a 6-1 victory over Danina Hughes and Nadjema Morille at No. 3 doubles. CSU's Mackenzie King and Karolina Skowronska managed a 7-6(7) win at No. 1 doubles over Lacey Tanner and Alexandra Popa, but it wasn't enough to prevent Valparaiso from taking the early advantage.

In singles, Valparaiso extended its lead quickly as Jolene Fernandes defeated Morille 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Steven added another point for Valparaiso with her 6-3, 6-3 win over Liyanage at No. 4 singles. Tanner then clinched the match for Valparaiso with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over King at No. 3 singles.

Delgado continued Valparaiso's momentum with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Hughes at No. 5 singles. Chicago State found success when Skowronska left her match unfinished at No. 1 singles against Silva, with the score at 3-6, 5-5. Sanchez earned the Cougars' second point with a 7-6(3), 6-5 victory over Popa at No. 2 singles, closing the competition on a positive note for Chicago State.
