CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago State University fell to Xavier University 7-0 on Saturday at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club. Xavier secured a clean sweep by winning all six singles matches and all three doubles matches. The team also celebrated and honored two senior plaeyers,
Reed Gahagan and
Andrew Kunaka.
Xavier secured the doubles point with victories on all three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Max Pettingell and Alex Kotarski defeated
Andrew Kunaka and
Joao Teixeira, 6-2. On court two, Kyle Totorica and Lukas Grossman edged
Reed Gahagan and
Yurii Hoida in a tiebreak set, 7-6(7-4), while Andrew Spurck and Bode Campbell completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 1-0 win over an incomplete Chicago State pair.
In singles, Xavier continued its dominance, beginning with Nick Herdoiza's straight-sets win over Hoida at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Kotarski added another point for Xavier at No. 2 singles, overcoming Teixeira in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-3, 10-1. Pettingell defeated Kunaka at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4, further extending Xavier's lead.
Gahagan fell to Spurck at No. 4 singles, with a 6-2 scoreline. On court five, Campbell secured another point for Xavier against
Justin Atkins, winning 6-1, 6-0. The match concluded with a default at No. 6 singles, as Totorica was credited with a 1-0 victory due to an incomplete Chicago State lineup.
