CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago State University fell to NIU 6-1 on Saturday at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club. Chicago State secured its sole point with a victory at the No. 3 singles position.
NIU secured the doubles point with victories on all courts. Iker Arrastia and Nikola Puntaric defeated
Justin Atkins and
Joao Teixeira 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Iker Dellien and Chiao Bo Suo Nan followed with a 6-1 win over
Chad Valdes and
Andrew Kunaka at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match, featuring Federico Scotuzzi and Lorenzo Leti Messina against
Reed Gahagan and
Yurii Hoida, was left unfinished at 5-2.
In singles, NIU continued its strong performance. Chiao Bo Suo Nan clinched the first singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Atkins at No. 6 singles. Puntaric extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Hoida at No. 1 singles. Dellien added another point with a 6-2, 6-2 result against Gahagan at No. 5 singles.
Pratyaksh LNU contributed to NIU's success with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kunaka at No. 4 singles. Teixeira provided a highlight for CSU with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory over Scotuzzi at No. 3 singles. NIU's Messina closed the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Valdes at No. 2 singles, completing the day with a 5-1 win in singles.
