LIU (5-17, 2-7 NEC) jumped out to an early 15-13 lead after the first quarter, but Chicago State responded in the second frame, outscoring the Sharks 14-10 to enter halftime with a 27-25 advantage.
A decisive 9-0 run in the third quarter gave the Cougars their biggest lead of the night at 10 points. While LIU fought back in the fourth, Chicago State's defense held strong, forcing key turnovers and closing the game at the free throw line.
Chicago State will look to build on this momentum in their next match-up as they stay on the road taking on Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa, as as they aim to string together back-to-back wins.
