ST. GEORGE, Utah — Chicago St. (1-11) fell to Utah Tech (5-5), 69-55, at Burns Arena, with Utah Tech outscoring Chicago St. 45-26 in the first half. Chicago St. managed 20 points in the paint and forced 16 turnovers, but Utah Tech's 10 three-pointers proved to be the difference.
The game began with Chicago State's
Natalia Williams scoring the opening basket after a steal, setting an early tone. Utah Tech responded with a three-pointer to take a brief lead. Chicago State tied the game at 9-9 following a layup by
Kayla Mount, assisted by
Aiyanna Culver, with 3:08 left on the clock. This layup was part of a standout performance for Mount, as she scored 14 total points, surpassing her season average of 7.88. In the final minute, Utah Tech regained the lead ending the quarter at 14-12 in favor of the home team.
Utah Tech extended its lead in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and strong bench contributions.
Aiyanna Culver responded with a three-pointer to narrow the gap to 18-17 at 6:55, but Utah Tech answered another three-pointer to push the lead to 21-17. The half ended with the Trailblazers securing a 35-26 advantage.
Utah Tech maintained control throughout the third quarter. However, Chicago State's
Keona McGee was active at the free-throw line, successfully converting all her attempts, including two at 5:09. Despite efforts from Chicago State, Utah Tech extended their lead, finishing the quarter ahead, 59-43.
In the final quarter, Chicago State attempted to narrow the gap with Utah Tech but ultimately fell short.
Kayla Mount contributed significantly with two key jumpers, including one at 1:52, while continuing her consistent performance on the boards, marking at least 4 total rebounds in 9 consecutive games.
Kyara Champagne added two three-pointers, helping Chicago State to outscore Utah Tech 12-10 in the period. Utah Tech added a layup and a three-pointer to essentially pull away. Despite a strong defensive performance including a block by
Tania Allen, Chicago State's effort was not enough to overcome Utah Tech's lead as they secured a 69-55 victory.
Chicago State was led by
Kayla Mount who scored 14 points which included a sizzling 7/8 shooting night. She also added four rebounds.
Kyara Champagne added 11 points including two three point makes, while
Keona McGee added eight points and
Natalia Williams added six points.

Chicago State now have an extended time off going into the Christmas break. The Cougars return to action to battle the Clemson Tigers from the ACC conference at home on Sunday, Dec. 28. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. at the Emil & Patricia Jones Convocation Center in Chicago, Illinois.
