FRESNO, Calif. — Chicago State women's basketball (1-9) fell to Fresno State (6-5), 81-62, at the Save Mart Center on Saturday. Chicago St. managed 32 points in the paint but was out-rebounded 46-26 by Fresno St.
The game began with an early layup by Fresno State but Chicago State responded quickly with a jumper from
Marisa Gant to tie the game at 2-2. Fresno State then surged ahead with a strong performance, including two 3-pointers extending their lead to 12-6. At the end of the quarter, Fresno State led 20-6, capitalizing on efficient shooting and strong defensive rebounds.
Chicago State responded with a layup from
Keona McGee, narrowing the gap to 23-8.
Brianna Hill added two free throws which brought the score to 23-10, Fresno State maintained control. The half ended with the Bulldogs hitting a three-pointer and a late jumper, respectively, closing the period with Fresno State leading 45-18.
The third quarter featured a competitive exchange with both teams scoring efficiently. The Cougars were led by
Tania Allen and
Kyara Champagne each scored key layups for CSU, as they attempted to close the gap.
Keona McGee added a three-pointer at 4:39 to keep the Cougars in contention. However, Fresno State maintained their lead with a jumper at 5:29 and a layup in the final seconds, closing the quarter 66-37 in favor of the home team.
Natalia Williams led Chicago State's fourth-quarter effort with a strong performance, contributing a three-pointer at 6:24 and a layup at 4:47, supported by an assist from
Marisa Gant. Chicago State outscored Fresno State 25-15, but the deficit was too much as and have a lot of positive things happen in the second half as the Bulldogs defeated the Cougars 82-61.
Chicago State were led by
Natalia Williams with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Keona McGee added 10 points and three rebounds. FInally,
Brianna Hill scored 9 points and added three rebounds and two assists.
