CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago State women's basketball faced off against the Colorado Buffaloes and suffered a 83-32 loss.
Janiah Newell led in points with eight, while Ana Haklicka added on seven, and Jacia Cunningham tallied six.
First Quarter - Colorado 27, Chicago State 11
- Colorado began with a 3-0 run thanks to a deuce and one made free throw out of two at the charity stripe
- However, the Cougars then answered back as Janiah Newell made a four-point play with a trey And One which gave them the lead at 4-3
- Unfortunately, Colorado then went on a 6-0 rally which gifted them an early lead at 9-4
- Chicago State then cut the rally with a tough layup from Josie Hill to get close to the Buffaloes at 6-9
- The Buffaloes then went on an 18-5 run as they led comfortably at 27-11 after the first quarter
Second Quarter - Colorado 46, Chicago State 18
- Colorado opened up the quarter with a 13-0 rally which only furthered their lead to 40-11
- The Cougars finally were able to open up their scoring with a drive from Newell which unfortunately forced her out due to an injury, and sent Haklicka to the line to finish the And One play to reach a score of 14-40
- The Buffaloes finished off with a 6-4 rally as the Cougars only managed a jumper from Jacia Cunningham and a layup from Yzabelle Tevao to trail 46-18
Third Quarter - Colorado 68, Chicago State 28
- The Buffaloes once again began with a rally, this time at 9-0 to reach a score of 55-18
- The Cougars managed to cut the rally with a beautiful three point jumper from Haklicka
- Chicago State then managed to outscore the Buffaloes 5-7 thanks to a trey from Myers, a deuce from Newell, and two made free throws from Norris to reach a score of 28-60
- However, Colorado still managed to finish on a 8-0 run and maintain their lead at 68-28
Fourth Quarter - Colorado 83, Chicago State 32
- Colorado came out and completely stunned the Cougars as they went on a 15-4 run with the only four points coming from Jacia Cunningham
- At the final buzzer, the Buffaloes won comfortably as they reached a final score of 83-32
The Cougars next take on Indiana State on Tuesday at 5 P.M. in Terra Haute, IN.

Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
