CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Chicago State baseball team opened the 2020 campaign with a 14-4 set back at Western Carolina on Friday afternoon. The game was the first of a four-game set between the two teams.
Dylan Cumming (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc)s was on the mound and in 5.1 innings allowed eight runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts.
Both teams struck in the first inning with the Cougars getting on the board early with a leadoff single from Andy Gayton the start the game.
Judah Wilbur (Denver, Colorado/) reached on a fielders choice and came home on a double from Daily. Western Carolina would answer in the home part of the inning and with back-to-back singles got on the board.
The game was fairly close until the later innings as the Catamounts began to pull away. Western Carolina scored 11 of their 14 runs in the fifth through the eighth inning and the Cougars offense stalled as they only managed two runs in the final four innings.

The Cougars and Catamounts will play a doubleheader on Saturday before closing the series n Sunday with a single game.
