CHICAGO - Chicago State women's basketball suffered a 12-point, 73-61, setback as a slow second quarter plagued the Cougars against crosstown-rival UCI, Dec. 4 at home.
After leading 12-11 at the end of the first ten minutes, the Flames poured in 22 points in the second quarter of action, securing a 33-24 halftime lead.
The Cougars bounded back in the third, outscoring their opponent 14-12, but it was not enough to come from behind as UCI captured its first win of the season, 73-61.
CSU
- Two Cougars finished in double-figures; Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) (18) and Bethany Carstens (Kenai, Alaska/Nikiski) (16).
- Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) finished one-point shy of a double-double with a game-best 14 rebounds and nine points
- CSU forced 27 Flame turnovers
UIC
- Tylah Lampley led the game with a 31-point performance, while collected 11 rebounds.
- Jada Nneji also added double-figures for the Flames with 10-points and pulled down eight rebounds before fouling out.
- UIC scored 31 fast-break points, while collected 39 from the bench compared to the Cougars 19.
