CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Three Chicago State women's basketball players finished in double-figures after a late start plagued the Cougars during a 96-66 setback at Illinois Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Champaign.
The Fighting Illini got off to a quick 14-0 run before a Bethany Carsten layup gave the Cougars their first bucket of the 2019 season at the 5:05 mark.
It was all Illinois during the rest of the first quarter, as they outsourced CSU 28-9.
After the slow start, the Fighting Illini only held the 11-point advantage through the final three quarters as the Cougar's scored 57 points compared to the home team's 68.
CSU
Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) led CSU offensively, finishing with a team-best 24 points, while
Kourtney Crane (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) and
Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) added 17 and 12 respectively.
Bowers also dished six dimes on the day, while Mata Boix finished game one of the season with a double-double, pulling down a team-best 10 boards.
Illinois
The Fighting Illini were led by Petra Holesinska's 29 points and six rebounds, as four members of the home team finished in double-figures.
