Four Players Score in Double Figures in CSU Women’s Basketball’s Non-Conference Finale

CHICAGO – Four players scored in double figures for Chicago State women's basketball as it hosted Brown from the Ivy League today in its non-conference finale at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. The visiting Bears would capture a 90-65 victory in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Both teams battled through four lead changes in the opening four and a half minutes of the game before junior Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) gave the home team a 13-12 lead with a layup at the 5:31 mark of the first quarter. An 11-2 scoring run by Brown in a five-minute span turned the tide as it closed the quarter with a 24-14 lead and went into halftime ahead by a 47-31 margin after taking a 23-17 duke in the second stanza.

The Cougars posted an 11-8 drive over a five and a half-minute span in the third quarter to slice their deficit to 55-42 with 4:33 remaining after freshman Taylor Robinson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) scored on a layup off a pass from fellow freshman Kourtney Crane (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) following a steal. Brown would later close the stanza with a 14-6 run to bring its lead to 69-48 and gain the victory.

CSU was led by junior Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) as she recorded her second straight double-double by posting a career-high 20 rebounds and 16 points. She shot 5-of-10 from the field and connected on six of her seven free throw attempts in addition to producing a season-best four assists and two blocked shots.
