Women’s Basketball Opens Homestand with 76-70 Defeat to Valparaiso

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's basketball team kicked off a short two-game homestand Thursday evening with a close 76-70 defeat to visiting Valparaiso at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
 
CSU held advantages over the Crusaders in made free throws (23-22), rebounds (37-35), fast break points (12-5), assists (11-8), bench points (16-13) and blocked shots (7-0).
 
Sophomore Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) paced the Green and White with 25 points and finished a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line in 40 minutes of play.
 
For the second consecutive game, junior Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) recorded a double-double as she tallied a season-high 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in addition to producing a game-high
 
Meredith Hamlet scored a game-high 28 points to lead Valparaiso.
 
The Cougars will take a break from competition for fall semester final exams before returning to action on Dec. 8 with a home game against SIU Edwardsville.
