Cerda Tallies Career-High 24 points for Cougars at Utah Valley

Jessica Cerda recorded a career-high 24 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead CSU tonight at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – Redshirt junior Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) continued her recent outstanding play for the Chicago State women's basketball team here tonight as she tallied a career-best 24 points as host Utah Valley claimed a 73-54 win at Lockhart Arena.

Cerda connected on 9-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, and grabbed a team-best five rebounds.

The Wolverines opened the contest by claiming an 18-8 advantage in the first quarter, but the Cougars would capture the second quarter by a slim 17-16 margin to trim their deficit at 35-24 going into intermission. CSU continued its comeback in the third quarter by posting a 17-15 lead to pull within seven points (49-42), but UVU used a 24-12 run in the fourth to pull out the victory.

In addition to Cerda, sophomore Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) added 13 points, five assists and tied a game high with four steals for the Cougars. Senior Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) contributed 11 points and five assists, and freshman Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) set a new season high with two blocked shots.

Sam Lubcke recorded a double-double with game highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds for Utah Valley, who had five players score in double figures.

The Green and White conclude their road swing on Feb. 18 at UMKC with a start time of 2 p.m.
