Women's Basketball Opens Five-Game Road Swing at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio – The Chicago State women's basketball team opened a five-game road swing after falling to host Wright State by a score of 84-39 today at the Nutter Center.
 
Senior Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) hit a three for the game's first basket to give the Green and White an early 3-0 lead at the 9:46 mark of the first quarter before the home team went on a 12-1 run over six minutes to capture a 12-4 lead with 2:50 left in the quarter. CSU scored six of the final eight points of the stanza with senior Destiny Harris (Crete, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) scoring four of those points to pull within 14-10.
 
A 20-0 run over a six-minute stretch in the second quarter increased the Raiders lead to 34-10 with 3:47 remaining and the Cougars would not get any closer than 20 points for the rest of the game.

Freshman Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) recorded nine points to lead Chicago State, while redshirt senior guard Phylicia Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) posted eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Redshirt sophomore Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain) also finished with eight points and grabbed four rebounds.
 
Wright State had four players score in double figures for the game with Symone Simmons leading the way with game highs of 16 points and four steals.
 
After taking a week off for final exams, the Cougars head to Indiana on Dec. 10 for a non-conference showdown against host Valparaiso at the Athletics-Recreation Center live on ESPN 3 with the opening tip set for 3 p.m.
