Women’s Basketball Ends Homestand with 64-51 Loss to Western Michigan

Kaylee Allen scored a game high 19 points to lead three CSU players in double figures tonight against Western Michigan

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's basketball team saw its short two-game homestand at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center come to an end here tonight with a 64-51 loss to Western Michigan.

The Green and White shot 50 percent from three-point range which helped them gain an 18-11 lead after the first quarter. WMU then responded by outscoring CSU in the second and third quarters by a 49-16 margin to take a commanding 60-34 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play. A defensive stand turned into the Cougars favor as they produced a 17-4 advantage in the stanza to go along with shooting 58 percent from the field to provide the final margin.

CSU would go on to hold advantages in steals (14-10) and blocked shots (5-1) for the contest.

The Cougars (0-12), who had three players score in double figures, were led by sophomore Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) as she scored a game-high 19 points and shot 7-of-13 from the field.

Junior Destiny Harris (Crete, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) contributed a pair of season highs with 15 points and six assists while also grabbing five rebounds. Senior Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) added 10 points to round out the trio and tied with redshirt junior Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) for game high honors with four steals.

Marley Hill led Western Michigan (9-2) in scoring as tallied 19 points to tie with Allen for game high honors, while Breanna Mobley recorded a double-double with 13 points and posted a game-leading 10 rebounds.

CSU returns to action after Christmas on Dec. 28 at Cincinnati with a start time of 6 p.m.
