Allen Scores 21 Points for CSU in Home Battle with Bradley

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's basketball continued its three-game homestand Wednesday night at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center with a close 66-60 defeat to visiting Bradley.

Freshman Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) led the Cougars (1-6) in her first game back from an injury as she scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field while adding two assists and two steals.

After CSU took a slim 19-16 lead following the first quarter, the visitors would use a 16-4 scoring drive in the middle of the second quarter to capture an eventual 32-29 halftime advantage.

BU (3-3) then took its biggest lead of the game at 48-36 late in the third quarter before the Cougars went on a 17-5 run in a span of 5:20 to even the score at 53-53 with five minutes remaining after junior Caitlin Nix hit a pair of free throws. The Braves ended the game by scoring 13 of the final 20 points down the stretch to capture the win.

In addition to Allen's play, junior Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) added 13 points, and senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) contributed 12 points, five assists and three blocked shots. Freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) finished the game with eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Anneke Schuleuter paced Bradley with 14 points, while Leti Lerma finished with a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

CSU welcomes Big 12 Conference member Kansas State to the JCC this Saturday afternoon to conclude its homestand in a WAC Digital Network broadcast with the opening tip set for 2 p.m.
