Utah Valley's Fast Starts Dooms Cougars In Loss

The Chicago State women's basketball team suffered an 84-62 loss to the Utah Valley Wolverines at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah on Thursday evening (Feb. 20). 

Junior Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) had a team-high 20 points while also adding in four rebounds and two assists. It was the eighth 20 point game of her career. Sophomore Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) tied her career-high with 14 points in the loss.
 
 The Wolverines started the game on a 21-4 run by making nine of their first 11 shots. They finished the first stanza 20-31 (64.5 percent) from the floor. Chicago State struggled shooting the ball in the first half, shooting 7-28 (25.0 percent) and were outrebounded 22-11. 

Williams led the Cougars with 15 points in the second half.  Angela Jackson's squad outscored the Wolverines 40-37 in the second stanza and tied their season-high with seven three-pointers in the game. 

Katie Kuklok made seven three-pointers to lead the Wolverines with 24 points. Sam Loggins finished with 21 points while Georgia Agnew had a double-double with 10 points and 12 assists in the victory.

The Cougars fell to 3-22 on the season and 0-12 in the Western Athletic Conference while Utah Valley improved to 5-20 and 2-10 in the conference.  Chicago State continues their road trip against Bakersfield on Saturday (Feb. 22). Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm PT.
