HAMMOND, Ind. – Chicago State University women's golf concluded the third-annual CSU Cougar Classic here today with a sixth-place finish after the final 18 holes of competition at Lost Marsh Golf Course.
CSU scored a two-day total of 641 in the 14-team tournament, while Butler captured the team title with a score of 622 to edge second-place IUPUI by four strokes. IUPUI's Katie O'Brien shot a 146 to claim medalist honors with a slim two-stroke victory over defending medalist Michele Nash of Butler.
Junior Brianna Hickman (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson) (Tuscon, Ariz.) led the Cougars with a score of 157 to finish in a tie for 10th place with freshman Jessica Peatross (Lansing, Mich./Holt) (Lansing, Mich.), who also recorded a 157 as an individual. Hickman shot a 72 in the first round to become the second CSU golfer to shoot par in a tournament since 2009.
Sophomore Diana Flores (Torreon, Coah, Mexico/Instituto Alpes) (Torreon, Coah, Mexico) placed in a tie for 16th place after carding a 159, including a 78 in the final round of play. Redshirt senior Esther Lee (Irvine, CA/Santiago Canyon College) (Irvine, Calif.) and junior Brittany Johnson (Golden, Colo./Golden) (Golden, Colo.) tied for 32nd place after both golfers posted a two-day score of 165.
Rounding out the scoring for the Cougars was sophomore Andrea Rosado (Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico/American Heritage School) (Ponce, P.R.), who recorded a 166 to finish in a tie for 36th place.
CSU is back in action on Sept. 27-28 as it heads to downstate Edwardsville, Ill., to compete in the DoubleTree Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by SIU Edwardsville at the Sunset Hills Country Club.
