The Cougars opened the third quarter by scoring 17 of the first 30 points through a seven-plus minute span to slice their deficit to 55-44 when Bowers drained a three-pointer with 1:55 remaining in the stanza, but NMSU finished the game with a 23-12 fourth quarter rally to close the game.
