Women’s Basketball Releases 2017-18 Game Schedule

CSU head women's basketball coach Angela Jackson
2017-18 Women's Basketball Schedule

CHICAGO – The Chicago State University women's basketball team and head coach Angela Jackson have announced the release of the Green and White's regular season schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

The Green and White's 29-game slate features nine teams that competed in postseason tournaments last spring which includes NCAA Tournament teams Kansas State, New Mexico State and Western Illinois as well as having a 13-game home schedule at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.

"I feel that we've once again put together a really tough schedule this season with 11 teams that played in the postseason last year. We will quickly see what kind of fight this team will have against Northwestern (in the season opener) on our home floor," Jackson said. "I think this schedule will help prepare us for Western Athletic Conference play in early January."

CSU opens the season at the JCC on Nov. 10 when it battles Big Ten Conference member Northwestern then travels to downstate Champaign for a road showdown at another Big Ten foe in Illinois on Nov. 15. The Cougars close out November with home contests against Jackson State (Nov. 18), Northern Illinois (Nov. 20) and Morehead State (Nov. 26) sandwiched between a home and home series with WIU (Nov. 22 at the JCC and Nov. 29 in Macomb, Ill.).

The month of December begins with a Chicago Five battle as the Green and White host north side foe Loyola on Dec. 1 before kicking off a five-game road swing at Wright State (Dec. 3) and Valparaiso (Dec. 10).

CSU then heads to Wichita, Kan., on Dec. 15-16 to compete in its first in-season tournament in four years with the Shocker Winter Classic that also features the host Shockers, Alcorn State and former Mid-Continent Conference foe Oral Roberts. After closing the road swing at Kansas State on Dec. 18, the Cougars return to the JCC for their last home contest of 2017 against Milwaukee on Dec. 21 before finishing off non-conference play on the east coast with a New Year's Eve matchup at Pittsburgh.

Western Athletic Conference play kicks off the year 2018 for Chicago State with a Jan. 6 road battle at defending WAC champion New Mexico State followed by a return to the JCC for home games versus Seattle (Jan. 11) and Utah Valley (Jan. 13). Road games at Grand Canyon (Jan. 18), CSU Bakersfield (Jan. 20) and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (Jan. 27) concludes the month's slate.

CSU continues conference play in February with home games against CSUB (Feb. 1), GCU (Feb. 3), NM State (Feb. 22) and UTRGV (Feb. 24) sandwiched between road matchups at UVU (Feb. 8), Seattle (Feb. 10) and UMKC (Feb. 17).

The Cougars concludes regular season action at the JCC with Senior Day on March 3 against UMKC.

CSU then travels to Las Vegas for the WAC Tournament, which will be held at Orleans Arena and begins with the quarterfinals on March 7. The semifinals and championship games will take place on March 9-10 with the winner receiving the conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Jackson welcomes back four letterwinners from last season's squad that includes two returning senior guards in Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) and Destiny Harris (Crete, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor). She also brings in six newcomers to the team which includes a pair of Division I transfers in redshirt senior Phylicia Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and redshirt sophomore Ines Mata (Madrid, Spain).
