Chanel Khammarath Joins CSU Women’s Basketball for 2017-18

CHICAGO – Chicago native Chanel Khammarath has agreed to join the Chicago State University women's basketball team for the upcoming 2017-18 school year. Khammarath is transferring to CSU from UTEP and will sit out 2017-18 for NCAA residency rules.
 
Khammarath, a guard standing at 5-foot-7, averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last season as a junior for the Miners before sitting out the remainder of the season. She also shot 50 percent from the field that included connecting on 43 percent of her attempts from three-point range.
 
Prior to matriculating to UTEP, Khammarath played for two seasons at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College where she tallied averages of 10 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.9 steals a game during her sophomore season and claimed Second Team All-Jayhawk Conference honors.
 
Khammarath played prep ball in the Chicago Public League for legendary coach Dorothy Gaters at Marshall High School on the city's west side for two seasons. As a senior, she earned All-City and All-CPL Windy City West accolades after averaging 16.3 points, 4.2 steals and four assists a game for the Lady Commandos.
 
Khammarath will join fellow Division I transfers Mailee Jones and Destinee Pointer, and freshmen Alexa Blake (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern), Tamera Olverson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) and Niquera Short (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton) as newcomers to the Green and White.
