Women’s Basketball Adds Two Guards for 2017-18 Season

CHICAGO – Chicago State University women's basketball head coach Angela Jackson has announced the addition of Mailee Jones and Destinee Pointer, who will transfer into the program for the 2017-18 school year.

"We're getting a jump start on our 2018 recruiting class with the addition of Mailee and Destinee to the team. Both of these kids already have some collegiate experience so we expect them to provide leadership. These kids are great competitors and will give us depth at the guard position with their well-rounded and versatile games. We are very, very excited to have them join our Chicago State Cougar family," Jackson said.

Jones, a 5-foot-8 guard, averaged 3.6 points per game in 28 games this past season as a freshman at Youngstown State while shooting 90 percent from the free throw line. She received all-tournament team honors in the Bank of Hawaii Tournament which included scoring a season-best 18 points against Sacramento State. Jones, also earned all-academic honor roll recognition at YSU, posted averages of 17.6 points, 6.4 assists, 57 rebounds and 25 steals per game as a senior at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas to receive First Team All-District and SAAC All-State honors during the 2015-16 season.

A 5-foot-7 guard, Pointer spent her freshman season at Little Rock, who finished 25-9 and won the Sun Belt regular season title then earned a berth in the Postseason WNIT. She captured First Team All-District and All-Region accolades from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches in 2015-16 as a senior at Waxahachie (Texas) High School after averaging 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals a game.

Jones and Pointer will join incoming freshmen Alexa Blake (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern), Tamera Olverson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) and Niquera Short (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton) as newcomers to the team this fall.
