Senior Dane Mehring allowed one hit in 1.2 innings of relief to capture the win Saturday at Seattle
Box Score
BELLEVUE, Wash. – Chicago State baseball snapped a seven-game losing streak on Saturday by capturing a 7-4 victory over host Seattle in 10 innings at Courter Field on the campus of Bellevue College to even this weekend's Western Athletic Conference series at one win apiece.

The first five innings would serve as a scoreless pitcher's duel between CSU senior Jake Perkins (Huntley, IL/Huntley) and SU's Skyler Genger.

The scoring began in the sixth inning as Seattle took a 2-0 lead. Dalton Hurd hit an RBI double to score Brian Olsen for the first run and Grant Newton laid down an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Brian Carpenter on the next play.

Chicago State would tie the score at 2-2 in the top of the seventh that began with senior Chase Matheson (McHenry, IL/McHenry) bringing home fellow classmate Matt Schmidt (Dundee, IL/Jacobs) from third base with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field. Sophomore Sanford Hunt (Chicago, IL/Kenwood) then plated junior Andy Gertonson (Crystal Lake IL/Central) with a single to center field.

SU recaptured the lead at 4-2 in bottom half of the seventh behind an RBI triple by Landon Cray and a run-scoring double from Olson.

The Green and White scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to knot the score at 4-4 that started with senior David Wright (Desoto, Texas/Desoto) leading off the stanza with a double and advanced to third on a single from freshman Cody Freund (McHenry, IL/McHenry). Wright later scored on a single from Quintin Alexander (Chicago, IL/Brooks) and Freund tied the game after scoring on Schmidt's single two plays later.

Gertonson came back in the top of 10th inning with a three-run homer, his fifth of the season, off reliever Ryan Frietas that cleared the left field wall to give the visitors its first lead of the game. Alexander and Schmidt, who reached base via singles, scored on the play. CSU would hold on defensively in the bottom of the 10th for the win.

Schmidt posted a 3-for-5 effort at the plate with three RBI and scored two runs to lead Chicago State's 12-hit offensive output. Alexander, Matheson and Wright each added two hits on the day.

Senior reliever Dane Mehring (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) allowed just one hit and struck out a batter in 1.2 innings of work to improve his season record to 2-3. Fellow senior Jerry Silva (Chicago, IL/Holy Trinity) scattered two hits in two scoreless relief innings and Perkins finished his day by striking out four batters in six innings thrown.

CSU looks to win the rubber match with the Redhawks at Bannerwood Park tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12 p.m., central time.
