Aveeno Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Gavit) threw five shutout innings to help Chicago State baseball defeat Wabash 10-2 in a non-conference game on Tuesday (April 22) night at Cougar Stadium.
The Cougars broke open the game with an eight spot in the fifth inning. Romanin knocked in two runs on a triple in the frame. Schmidt followed five batters later with a grand slam to right field. The blast was his first home run as a Cougar.
Nasiloski started for the Cougars and pitched five innings. He allowed one run, two walks and an infield single while striking out six Little Giant batters. Nasiloski picked up the win to move his record to 2-1. Wabash starter Austin Hawn suffered the loss. He is now 0-1 after a 4.1 inning outing.
Junior
Julian Russell (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) recorded a double, single, a run scored and an RBI. Junior
Jordan Stroschein (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) also added an RBI for the Cougars.
"We tried Aveeno in a different role today and he did a nice job," Chicago State head coach
Steve Joslyn said. "Offensively Mattingly had some great at bats and it was nice to see Matt (Schmidt) get into one."
Romanin's four hits brings his career total to 148 and moves him into 10th all-time in Chicago State history.
The Cougars improve to 13-24. Wabash falls to 16-15. The Cougars travel to Northwestern on Wednesday (April 23) for a 3 p.m. CT first pitch.
