SOMERS, Wis. – Chicago State junior Oslyn Melissa Collins (Diamond New Scheme End, Guyana/Covent Garden) led the Chicago State women's cross country team on Saturday (Sept. 14) at the UW-Parkside Midwest Open with an 11th place finish among 200 runners. Her time of 18:45.8 was the best of the day for the Cougars.

Collins finished just short of the Chicago State record at the UW-Parkside course which was set by Abidemi Charles on Oct. 20, 2003 (18:42).

"Collins showed her toughness as she wasn't feeling well before or after the race," Chicago State head coach Steve Powenski said. "She turned in a nice performance on a challenging course."

Sophomore Jusilya Scott (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) posted a time of 24:21.2, good for 105th. Freshman Angelica Hampton (Melrose Park, Ill./Harlan Community) ran the course in 24:36.8 while sophomore Shaquilla Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Team Englewood ) took in a time of 29:02. Sophomore Tochukwu Akujieze (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor ) posted a 29:23.6.

Edinboro won the team event with all seven of their runners placing among the top 35 finishers. The Cougars finished in 15th place.

The Cougars return to the course at the College of DuPage Invite on Sept. 27.
