Ed Farmer Visits The Chicago State Baseball Team

Ed Farmer (far left) talks to the Chicago State baseball team.
CHICAGO – Chicago White Sox radio play-by-play voice, Ed Farmer, visited the Chicago State baseball team on Friday (Nov. 2). Chicago State head coach Steve Joslyn showed Farmer the new baseball facility before the 11-year Major League veteran and former Chicago State student spoke to the team for almost two hours.

Farmer played for eight teams during his Major League career including three seasons with the Chicago White Sox. In 1980, he made the All-Star Team and finished the season with 30 saves, third best in the American League.

One of the major points during the former White Sox's speech was team unity. He mentioned that it's important for players to be willing to sacrifice their personal goals to pick up their teammates. The Chicago State baseball team was also shown a glimpse of what life in the big leagues was like as Farmer was spoke candidly about his playing career.

"It was a pleasure to have Ed come visit the team," said Joslyn. "He provided great insight on what it means to be a team and gave our guys a little extra motivation by showing off his World Series ring."

The Cougars begin their first season in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) against McNeese State (Feb. 14-16). Their first game at their new facility is against city rival UIC (Mar. 5) while their first WAC games will be against Seattle (Mar. 14-16).
