CHICAGO
– The Chicago State cross country programs travel to the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday (Nov. 2). The teams have the privilege of being the first ever CSU programs to participate in a WAC Championship.

Seattle University hosts the men's and women's races at the Jefferson Park Golf Course. The 8K men's race will start at 11 a.m. CT. The women's 5K race will follow at noon CT. All nine WAC programs are represented except for Bakersfield which doesn't field a men's team.

The Cougars have been led on the men's side in 2013 by junior DeShaunte Lewis (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly). His best 8K time came on Oct. 16 at the UW-Parkside Rosa Invitational when he ran a time of 26:45.8. The total is four minutes better than last year's best individual performance by a Cougar.

Junior Oslyn Melissa Collins (Diamond New Scheme End, Guyana/Covent Garden) has paced the Chicago State women. Her best 5K time came Sept. 14 at the UW-Parkside Midwest Classic with a performance of 18:45.8. It is five minutes better than last year's best 5K time for the women. Collins opened up the season with a three mile school record in the Bradley Intercollegiate (18:06).

Saturday's event is not the final meet for the Cougars. Chicago State continues the 2013 campaign on Nov. 8 at the Northern Illinois Huskie Open.
