CHICAGO - Chicago State University baseball player Albert Carpen (Whiting, IN/Clark) was honored by the Great West Conference Monday evening as he was selected first team all-conference at the league's pre-conference tournament banquet at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah.
Carpen is the first CSU player to capture all-conference honors in the school's Great West era and first such honoree since Roc Latino gained first team honors in the Summit League in 2006.

He ranks among the NCAA Division I leaders this week in on-base percentage (fourth) and batting average (eighth).
In GWC games, Carpen has produced a .438 hitting clip with 34 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, eight doubles and eight RBI.
The Cougars open Great West Tournament play later this afternoon against Texas-Pan American at Brent Brown Ballpark with a start time of 1:15 p.m., central time. Click here for the GWC Tournament homepage with links to live video and live stats.
