CHICAGO - The Chicago State University women's track and field team closed out its 2012 schedule on May 11-13 at the fourth-annual Great West Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Houston Baptist at Turner Stadium in Humble, Texas.
The Cougars finished the meet in eighth place with 16 points and recorded eight top-10 finishes at the meet.
Sophomore Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) (Charlotte, N.C.) led the Green and White with four top-10 places in the meet, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the shot put (42-2.75) and a fifth-place showing in the discus throw (128-2). Emerson also placed ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 133-10 and closed out the meet with a 10th-place throw of 99-6 in the javelin throw.
Junior Sydney Van Munster (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland) (Hudsonville, Mich.) finished in a tie for ninth place in the high jump with a leap of 4-9.
In the 100-meter dash, junior Sharifah Robertson (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) finished seventh after crossing the finish line with a time of 12.29.
Robertson later teamed with sophomore Jennifer Sanford (Hammond, IN/Morton) (Hammond, Ind.), and seniors Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) and Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC) (Capitol Heights, Md.) to finish sixth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.88.
The 4x400-meter relay squad of Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood), Walker, Sanford and freshman Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) finished seventh after posting a time of 4:10.23.
