Fleming’s Four Top-10 Finishes Leads CSU Men’s Track and Field at Great West Outdoor Championships

Senior Daniel Fleming captured second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump events at the Great West Conference Outdoor Championships

CHICAGO - Chicago State University men's track and field closed out its 2012 slate on May 11-13 with an eighth-place finish at the fourth-annual Great West Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Houston Baptist. The meet was held at Turner Stadium in Humble, Texas.

The Green and White produced eight top-10 finishes and recorded a score of 41.5 points in the meet.

In his final collegiate meet, senior Daniel Fleming (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) paced CSU with four top-10 finishes, including three in the jumping events. Fleming placed fourth in the decathlon with a total of 5,373 points to open the meet. He won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.46 while capturing second place in three events (400-meter dash, high jump and long jump) and third place in two events (shot put and discus throw).

The four-year letterwinnner also captured a pair of silver medals after placing second in the long jump (22-3.50) and triple jump (44-2.75) events, and concluded the meet by finishing in a tie for sixth place in the high jump after posting a jump of 5-10.75.

Senior Robert Holmes (Chicago, IL/Leo) (Chicago, Ill.) closed out his collegiate career on a good note by finishing 10th in the javelin throw after recording a throw of 117-8.

In the running events, senior Uri Kuyoro (Harvey, Ill.) tallied a pair of top-five finishes by placing third in the 400-meter dash at a time of 49.44 and finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.78.

Senior Jamal Ephraim (Hazel Crest, IL/Lincoln College) (Hazel Crest, Ill.) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash after crossing the finish line with a time of 10.63.

Fleming and Kuyoro later teamed with fellow senior Earnest Jones (Chicago, IL/Proviso West) (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Jeremy Anderson (Springfield, IL/Lanphier) (Springfield, Ill.) on the 4x400-meter relay team to capture eighth place after recording a time of 3:40.22.
