CHICAGO – Chicago State University men's track & field standout Kelvin White (St. Petersburg, FL/Lakewood) closed out the record-setting indoor portion of his second season in good fashion as he was named Great West Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, the conference announced in a press release earlier this week.
The honor is White's second of the indoor season as he claimed the Best Outstanding Performance of the Championship award following the 2012 GWC Indoor Championships on Feb. 26 in Sterling, Ill., in which he helped the Green and White post its best finish in the three-year event with a fourth-place showing.
During the indoor season, the native of St. Petersburg, Fla., competed in the long jump, 4x400-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay and the 60-meter hurdles while producing 12 individual top-10 showings and won three event titles.
White shattered personal-best, CSU indoor and GWC indoor records by winning his second consecutive GWC 60-meter hurdles title with a time of 8.04 and also placed third in the long jump at a mark of 22-3.50.
This marks the second year in a row that White has received an indoor track award from the GWC as he was named the league's Freshman of the Year in 2011 after winning the 60-meter hurdles title.
