Emerson Sets Two CSU Throwing Records at Wisconsin

Jaya Emerson posted three top-ten finishes and set two CSU throwing records at the Wisconsin Twilight Invitational

CHICAGO – Freshman Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) (Charlotte, N.C.) continued her record-setting freshman campaign after setting a pair of school throwing records and producing three top-ten finishes for the CSU women's outdoor track & field team on May 7 at the Wisconsin Twilight Invitational at the Dan McLimon Track/Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis.

Overall, the Green and White finished in the top ten nine times in eight different events. 

Emerson began her day by setting a school record in the javelin throw with a toss of 110-0 to finish third. She later produced a throw of 139-06 in the discus to set her second CSU record of the competition and finish second, and followed that by placing eighth in the shot put with a mark of 41-0.25.

Senior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) recorded a sixth-place finish in the high jump after posting a leap of 5-3.25. 

Sophomore Mowaninuoluwa Idowu (McDonough, GA/Ola) (McDonough, Ga.) ran for a time of 12.47 to win the 100-meter dash for CSU's lone event title.

Junior Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) produced a pair of top-ten finishes in the sprinting events as she placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.64 and also finished sixth in the 100m, while junior Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC) (Capitol Heights, Md.) finished to place fourth in the 400-meter dash. 

Idowu, Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) and Walker later teamed with sophomore Sharifah Robertson (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) to capture second place in the 4x100-meter relay after crossing the finish line with a time of 48.90.

CSU heads to Orem, Utah this week to compete in the third-annual Great West Conference Outdoor Championships beginning Thursday morning.
