Emerson Sets Hammer Throw Record at Indiana State

Jaya Emerson set a CSU outdoor record in the hammer throw and posted two top-ten finishes at the ISU Pacesetter Invitational

CHICAGO – Freshman Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) (Charlotte, N.C.) set a new CSU school outdoor record in addition to recording a pair of top-ten finishes to lead the Cougars at the Indiana State Pacesetter Invitational on April 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Emerson posted a new personal-best throw of 132-9 to set the school record in the hammer throw, while recording a ninth-place finish in the shot put (40-0.75) and placed 10th in the discus throw (129-6). 

In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Sharifah Robertson (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) crossed the finish line at a time of 12.60 to finish sixth. She later teamed with fellow sophomore Mowaninuoluwa Idowu (McDonough, GA/Ola) (McDonough, Ga.) and juniors Neshia Robertson (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) (South Holland, Ill.) and Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC) (Capital Heights, Md,) to place sixth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.71.

The Cougars travel to Indianapolis this Saturday to compete in the Stan Lyons Invitational, hosted by Butler.
