CHICAGO – Chicago State University (CSU) Athletics Director Sudie Davis announced today the addition of former Bloom Township High School girls’ volleyball head coach Bob Eskew as the new head coach for the University’s volleyball program.
“I know Bob Eskew will be an outstanding coach (here at CSU) given the chance to recruit and bring the program to a competitive level that we expect it can be in the future, said Athletics Director Sudie Davis. “I don’t think that we could have pick a more harder-working person than Bob to get this task completed of recruiting talented athletes in addition to working within the refines of NCAA and Chicago State rules. Bob brings a lot of integrity to CSU and we’re very happy to have him here as the head volleyball coach.”
Eskew comes to CSU after spending 25 years at Bloom as a teacher and coach including a 22-year stint (1987-2009) as the Blazing Trojans’ girls’ volleyball squad where produced a career record of 389 wins and 109 losses to go along with seven conference titles and coaching numerous all-state players.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of building the Chicago State volleyball program to becoming more competitive in NCAA Division I and the evolution to becoming a winning program,” Eskew said. “We’re looking to get better every year starting with this season and I feel we can do that with a balance of newcomers in addition to five returning letterwinners.”
Last season, he guided Bloom to a 29-3 record and captured the Southland Conference Championship. In addition to his volleyball coaching duties, Eskew also served as the assistant varsity boys’ basketball coach at Bloom from 1987 to the end of last season. He also spent the 1985-86 season at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Ill., as the school’s head men’s basketball coach.
In 1983-84, Eskew served one year as the head boys’ basketball coach at Mason City High School in Mason City, Iowa.
Prior to Mason City, Eskew taught and was the head coach for the boys’ basketball team at T.F. North High School in Calumet City, Ill., from 1982-84 after spending four years as an assistant coach there from 1978-82.
Eskew received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education/Health from CSU in 1976, where he was also a member of the Cougars’ men’s basketball team for two seasons. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Special Education at CSU in 1988.
