CHICAGO – Chicago State University men’s tennis was honored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Wednesday for its academic achievement in the classroom as part of the organization’s announcement of its Academic Progress Rate (APR) program report for the 2009-10 school year.
It is the first-ever public recognition award for the Cougars, who were one of three schools from the state of Illinois and the lone Mid-American Conference member to receive the honor for men’s tennis.
The NCAA selected over 800 Division I athletic teams in various sports that finished in the top 10 percentile of its respective sport with public recognition awards for academic success.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success rate each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in providing a calculation of the team’s academic performance.
