CHICAGO – The Chicago State women’s tennis team proved to be rude hosts in its final true contest this season against Big East Conference opponent West Virginia as it captured a 5-2 victory Friday afternoon. The Cougars improved their record to 8-4, while the Mountaineers dropped to 13-4 on the year.
The Cougars captured a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point as sophomores Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno and Juan Rosalia Tejoprayitno posted a close 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles by beating Veronica Cardenas and Emily Mathis. CSU’s No. 1 doubles tandem of junior Dian Mayasari and senior Golda Rubina earned an 8-4 win over Steph LaFortune and Monique Burton.
West Virginia captured a slim 2-1 lead when Ashley Pilsbury posted a forfeit win at No. 6 singles and Katie Haught recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over junior Peggy Moore in the No. 5 singles match.
Mayasari evened the match at 2-2 by knocking off LaFortune via a 7-6 (5), 6-0 margin in the No. 1 singles contest. Juan Rosalia captured a three-set battle with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, and Juan Rosalia bounced back from a 6-2 loss in the first set of her No. 3 doubles battle with Cardenas to win 7-5 and 6-3 to give CSU the victory. Rubina closed the match with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Mathis.
CSU is back in action on April 18 with its final regular season match against SIU Edwardsville with a start time of 2 p.m.
