Golda Rubina was named Great West Conference Player of the Week for her efforts against West Virginia

CHICAGO – Chicago State senior Golda Rubina was named Great West Conference Tennis Player of the Week for her efforts in CSU’s regular season home finale, the conference announced Friday in a press release. The honor is the first-ever for Rubina and CSU this season.

Rubina, a native of Jakarta, Indonesia, captured the award after helping the Cougars post one of their biggest wins in school history after defeating Big East Conference member West Virginia at home by a score of 5-2 on April 2.

Down 1-0 in her No. 4 singles contest against WVU’s Emily Mathis, Rubina rallied in the final two sets to win by scores of 6-3 and 6-1 to capture the win. She also teamed with junior Dian Mayasari (Tulang Agung, Indonesia) to post an 8-4 win over Steph Lafortune and Monique Burton at No. 1 doubles.

The Cougars are back in action on April 18 as they head to SIU Edwardsville for their final regular season match.
