NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Chicago State women’s basketball player Courtney Waldon was named the Great West Conference Female Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2009, the league office announced Monday in a press release.
Waldon, a 6-2 junior forward, recorded averages of 14.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game while scoring in double figures for all of CSU’s eight games in December. She posted 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range, with three blocks against Valparaiso on Dec. 2 and followed that with an 18-point performance in a 72-58 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Air Force Classic in Colorado.
The Sun Prairie, Wis., native concluded the month with a double-double of 15 points and a career high-tying 12 boards to go along with six assists in a 78-62 home win over Central Arkansas on Dec. 29.
“Courtney is the epitome of a student-athlete. She dedicates herself in the classroom as well as the basketball court,” said CSU head coach Angela Jackson. This award is an honor and well deserved.
CSU opens a Great West Conference three-game homestand at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center this Thursday against conference rival Utah Valley with the tip-off scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
